Just found out that the story I wrote, that photographer Steven King so wonderfully photographed, and that Worcester Magazine published in March, Unclaimed: Dead And Buried Alone in Massachusetts, will receive a Public Occurrences Award from New England Newspaper Awards in October. We are so proud of that story, which actually resulted in a state lawmaker filing legislation regarding the issue. We are extremely excited about the upcoming New England Newspaper & Press Association Awards in 2015, which will honor work done throughout 2013-2014. This has been an amazing year of work for Worcester Magazine, and I want to personally thank our editor, Brittan Durgin, our publisher, Kathy Real, our photographer, Steven King, our owner, Kirk Davis, our production staff, particularly Kim Vasseur, and so many others - perhaps most important, our readers - for turning to and trusting Worcester Magazine as a paper of record in Worcester and beyond. We are expected to learn which place we won at a luncheon Thursday, Oct. 9. Awards are great, and we will accept it, but I am so proud to be with Worcester Magazine and to try to deliver the best product possible to our readers. I know it sounds like bullshit, but its not. Believe me.
