Just found this music. There is a really good tradition of slack key guitar that originated in Hawaii beginning around 1900. Hawaiians invented the steel guitar and sent it to the US via San Francisco. It was immediately adopted by blues musicians and transported to the American Southeast. Beamer is a modern musician in terms of the chords and progressions he uses, but his technique in getting those sounds definitely arise from roots set down over a century ago.
