Just four years ago as I was making breakfast, a fellow came in and sat at the bar, ordered a bowl of bayou grits and wanted a I fried egg on top. He began sharing stories of adventure, photography and business. I learned He left a life in Louisiana centered around photography to find himself in Pensacola and was plotting how to make a living here in the paradise we called home. The first year he followed a group of us around taking surf photos in trade for breakfast and networking opportunities. This guy was one of the most giving individuals I have ever ran into, always there to lend a hand, an ear or advice in a new found passion of mine behind the camera. In just four years he had befriended nearly everyone in this community, became the most sought after dive instructor in the town, married the woman of his dreams and just recently bought a charter boat business. The man had lived the life we all were after. That man was Mark Saltz, we lost him yesterday due to a sudden heart attack. It still feels like a bad dream. We go through life trying to define our own definition off success. When we leave this world we are remembered by the differences we make. Mark Saltz touched everyone he came in contact with and I can say Im a better person after spending the time I did with Him. Cheers to his legacy, you will be missed. I dont think Ill ever be able to pick up my camera and not think of you.
