Just got a pamphlet in the mail from Frank Leonard encouraging me to vote for him and his slate of Councillors. Prominent amongst his list of priorities is traffic safety. What a crock! This is the same Mayor who instructed the Police and Engineering departments to push back against requests for changes to speed limits in residential areas, and the same Council who has consistently refused for several years to even read our requests for traffic calming in our area. After the North Rd. closure in late 2007 they have channeled regional traffic through our, at one time quiet, residential area. They did this with the knowledge that their own Engineering department advised them that a fundamental principle was that regional traffic had no business on residential streets, and instead should be channeled back out on to the highway, where it belongs. I used to like political jokes until so many of them got elected.
