Just got back from dads USS SAN JUAN navy reunion. Had an awesome time. Met three of dads shipmates from the San Juan. All in their 90s and the stories they could tell. Dad never talked much about his time in the navy, but I really learned a lot these past few days. The San Juan was one of the first ships into Tokyo Bay after the treaty was signed on the Missouri. The San Juan picked up pows from Japan and transported to hospital ships. Also toured the Naval base and the USS NORMANDY - they were getting ready to deploy and we actually watched them leave the harbor yesterday morning as we were leaving Norfolk. Met families of shipmates who have passed away but still attend the reunion. They thought this might be the last reunion, but they voted to go for one more!!! Spunky bunch!!!
