Just got back from my genius bar appointment and its off for a second logic board replacement, 7 months after the first. Much easier job persuading them this time as they had a record of the fact that it was previously accepted as an EU Law claim. Interestingly I chose not to mention the thousands of failures or the petition (unless I needed to), or the fact that I knew exactly what the problem is. The guy helping me seemed fairly clued up and was quite relaxed about the fact that I had replaced both drives and the memory and that the case was a bit battered. Its sold as a pro machine and we expect them to get used was his comment. He did seem surprised that it had failed after 7 months. His exact words were usually they fail 90 days or they are fine. I mentioned that I used forced it to the integrated GPU most of the time to avoid stressing it but I had recently enabled the discrete GPU for HDR rendering in Photoshop. Ah yes, its the switching between processors that stresses them was the response. So clearly someone within the hierarchy is aware of the underlying problem. I know a lot of the posts on here (including my own) are pretty negative about the company, but credit where its due: I cannot fault the customer service I received at the front line.
