Just got back from the Port Huron City Council meeting regarding the charter amendment addressing marijuana. Apart from it being extremely clear no one in town who smokes gave enough of a shit to show up and voice their opinion (literally 21 people were there, 6 of whom work for the city, and only the woman who initiated the petition was there in regard to speaking on the issue), its also pretty clear that there is a strong possibility that because of the amendment, not only will people caught with weed still face arrest, theyll be prosecuted MORE harshly than before. Thats right, those arrested for marijuana will now likely face greater charges and harsher punishment. Apparently the new amendment eliminates charging people with the (former) city 90 day misdemeanor, and leaves the county prospector to charge under state law, under which possession is a 1 year misdemeanor.
