Just got back from the community meeting at Dvorak Technology Academy at 16th and South Central Park. Community sentiment was expressed clearly and forcefully, both outside along 16th Street and inside of the Dvorak gym. People said NO! to the so-called turnaround of the school which would mean firing everyone and turning management over to the Academy of Urban School Leadership which does a generally mediocre job at the other schools that it manages. McNair and on the West Side and Gresham on the South Side both face the same threat. There will be another hearing at the Board of Ed downtown on April 9 and the final decision will be announced at the Board meeting on April 26. All three schools under assault are majority African American, which Im sure surprises no one who is reading this. Come out if you can and show some love for the brave teachers, parents, students and community allies who are fighting for a decent public education for all. Photos tomorrow....
