Just got back from the gathering of Allianz Cultural Foundation - TopicsExpress

Just got back from the gathering of Allianz Cultural Foundation Summer Academy alumni in Budapest. We had lots of interesting speakers, and I thought I’d share some tips on getting the job you want from those who make hiring decisions on a regular basis – from HR all the way to hiring managers. 1. Apply before the application deadline – early birds get a lot more attention, since recruiters have fewer applications to review. 2. Invest on your CV – it is even more important than the cover letter, which recruiters don’t always have time to read. It can’t be longer than two pages, it has to be clearly structured, no spelling mistakes, simple formatting and one letter type. 3. Personalize – you don’t just need one good CV, you need several versions tailored to the role and the company you apply for. Check key words in job description and make sure they are included and prominent on your CV. 4. Use action words both on your CV and interview – Say ‘I did’, not ‘I tried’ 5. Google yourself – it is now standard practice for companies to check what the internet says about you, so make sure it tells a story you would like to tell about yourself. Check your Facebook settings, especially on photos. 6. Prepare for your interview – research the company and role, have your key messages ready and tell them through stories. 7. Invest in your body language – make a video on your phone, see how you come across. Try to do power poses in private before the interview – research showed it increases chances of getting a job by 20%. 8. Be reachable and responsive – ensure contact details are correct and up to date on your CV, check your spam folder to make sure you haven’t missed any messages. 9. Have a target salary in mind – if the company does not indicate salary, do some research and have an answer. Check Glassdoor for insights from employees of various corporations. 10. Dress well and be on time.
