Just got back from the hospital…I was there all day with my Mom and my Grandmother… Have you ever seen the movie Moonstruck? This was kind of what it was like… MR. JOHNNY says about his mother: The breath had almost totally left her body. She was as white as snow. And then she completely pulled back from death and stood up and put on her clothes and began to cook for everyone in the house. The mourners. And me. And herself! She ate a meal that would choke a pig! Ok, well not quite like that…but I have to have a good sense of humor tonight as all went well with my Grandmother today. She did eat, a few bites of mashed potatoes and some applesauce, the first solid food she has had in 5 days! She is on thickened everything as she cant swallow without choking. Poor thing! I hate seeing her like that but she ate something which is better than nothing. We made her as comfortable as possible...I washed her face, combed her hair, took her teeth out that no one seemed to notice her wearing, brushed them, and tossed them in some Polident for the night! We all took turns giving her drinks, thats all she wants is something cold and we arent allowed to give her popsicles anymore which is what she really wants…she chokes on them though and aspirates, so we cant have that either. The high light of the day…all of my Aunts children were in the same room for the first time in years and that was exactly what my Grandmother wanted
