Just got back from the spine specialist and will be having a spinal fusion on November 17 to fuse three discs in my lower back. My S1- L5, L5-L4, L4-L3, discs are gone. I have arthritis and bone spurs in them too. So, I am finally getting that fixed and it will be a hard, painful surgery to recover from. Not that I am being dramatic or anything. But that is what the dr told me. I am really looking forward to getting on with it. But it is 2 months away. I will be his first surgery that day and that is good. The surgery lasts 6-7 hours and I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days. I will have to remain fairly still for 6-8 weeks while the bones fuse, no bending, twisting, stooping or picking anything up heavier than a 1 gallon milk jug. (Sounds like my C-section recoveries.) The main concern will be infection. There will be 4 sets of screws with rods in my back to support the spine while the bones are fusing. Gary and Jordan will have to be my knights in shining armor to help me through this period. I want to be well enough to celebrate his graduation from college and Will’s graduation from Seminary in December. And of course Christmas! Dr. said it will take 3-6 months to heal and a year before all is well. It will be an interesting year and I am looking forward to having a good recovery!
