Just got back from the vet, and wow, did I ever get a surprise! Took my Rio soon to be named Tex in for his well dog check and to have his sutures removed. Well, I think I mentioned that he sometimes wont put his right back foot down When he runs he always does, but he often just walks on 3 legs. Doesnt seem to have any pain whatsover, but doesnt use it. When I looked closely, it appeared that one leg was shorter than the other and that his right hip was much less developed. Well, now we know exactly why. Upon xray, we discovered that one half of the top of his hip bone is non-existent. I have the xray so you can see. It will appear on the left side (his right). Notice the ball and socket on the opposite hip and the see the other hip. The large ball is totally gone! How this dog manages to jump up on my bed, run like the wind and play so hard is beyond me! Hes amazing. He was as good as gold at the vets. They all fell in love with him. You cant help it. Hes friendly and very cheerful. She was so astounded that shes sending the xrays to her other colleagues for their input. He is in no pain at all. In fact, he has total mobility and didnt even flinch! God wanted me to have this little dog. Im so glad I had not gone to the facility and noticed him holding up his leg. I would probably have been afraid to adopt him knowing its about $4,000 to repair a luxating patella. He and I are simply imperfect and doing the best we can. If it turns out that there is no further problem (arthritis will be an issue in the future) hell just take his glucosamine pills and a little fish oil ad he should be just fine. Here is the xray. Its amazing!
