Just got e-mail from a doc: I love what youve been writing about physician suicide. I live with depression every day and in my area there are no psychiatrists, so I have had to make do with traveling to bigger cities to get therapy from non-MDs, have had to be creative with getting meds through my Ob Gyn (careful with diagnosis.... do NOT code depression....) and paying cash... its a nightmare. I always have to be concerned about the Medical Board. I know people who have committed suicide as well. Nobody is sure how to start bringing this up, especially how to get the punitive aspect of it off our shoulders so we can start accepting our diagnosis and working at it rather than burying it in fear of retaliation.
