Just got finished writing this letter to the editor: To the Editor: My 11 year old grandson, Ben, is a very hardworking and self motivated young man. Despite having some emotional issues, he is very creative and finds ways to provides for the extra he enjoys having and doing. Ben, his sister, and brother, stayed at our house recently for almost two weeks. During Bens visit, he made extra money by mowing neighbors lawns, and doing yard work for his great grandfather. When his earnings were totaled, Ben had received 40 dollars. He was very proud of his earnings. After my grandchildren returned home to Akron, Ben went across the street from his house to the supermarket with a parent. While in the store, Bens pocket was picked. The 40 dollars that Ben had worked so hard to earn in the the almost two week period, was gone in a matter of seconds to someone who did absolutely nothing to earn it. Ben had plans to spend time on an outing with his father with that money. My question is what kind of lowlife would steal from an 11 year old? If this person is caught stealing from someone else, I hope that they are punished to the fullest extent of the law. If it happens to be another minor, I hope the parents face their responsibilities and administer the proper discipline to the child. Its not my wish for my grandchildren to see that there is no value in hard work or for them to think it is right for others to to take what does not rightfully belong to them. Please remember that personal responsibility begins in the home. We should never rely on the schools, government, or law enforcement to instill these values in our children and grandchildren. It is our job. Cliff Feightner
