Just got home from the Responding to Climate Change: The Voices of the Filipino Youth forum organized by DENR EMB, UNDP, PATLEMAP and UN Volunteers. Learned a lot from the presentation of experts on climate change. Tickled to laughter by Albay Gov Joey Salcedas funny jokes and inspired by what he is doing in Albay on disaster risk reduction and management and climate change adaptation. Met new friends and enjoyed our intelligent discussion on what we propose to address climate change. Braved presenting our groups output in the plenary. And, boy, was I proud that my inputs were included in the final document we will be submitting to concerned authorities - ensuring youth representation in DRRMCs, integrating environmental education in the basic education curriculum, making a course on environmental justice and climate change a required GE course in college, and ensuring the continuity of effective tools and programs like NOAH through legislation. Indeed, the youth, with their energy and dogged idealism, play an important role in addressing climate change. With our collective will and action, we can make a difference in our struggle to keep Earth alive. P.S. Thank you Xavvy Lobos for inviting/nominating me to be part of this forum. =)
