Just got off the phone from an interview with NY1 The Call. Boy, - TopicsExpress

Just got off the phone from an interview with NY1 The Call. Boy, is that rough...you dont know what the questions are, and he speaks like hes racing a train to an answer. In the rush, I neglected to mention just which elected officials have helped us and how. Its important, as I hope other small groups can call on their elected to step in and help a community. Daniel Dromm led the way, ensuring and sponsoring a neighborhood slow zone in Jackson Heights. We look forward to his guidance as we try to find a way into the schools. Julissa Ferreras has teamed up with us on future projects to educate our communities with Safe practices. She spoke passionately and personally about how important eliminating traffic deaths is to her. She has time and again answered our calls, guided, offered us contacts and reached out to DOT, and DOE to keep our streets safe. From both, weve received Diversity Plaza and Corona Plaza- community meeting places where in the coming year well do advocacy and safe streets trainings. Jimmy Van Bramer has been tireless in promoting street redesign, building a tremendous coalition of street advocates, being present in the face of so many tragedies in his district this last year. We love you, Jimmy- to face a families pain as youve had to do on Thompson Ave, on Queens Boulevard, on Broadway, on Northern...and when we call, you provide answers. Our Assemblyman Francisco Moya called us in for a meeting, skipped a holiday party to hear our plans and together we strategized what to ask from Albany, how to get it done, and he will host our first Transportation/Street Safety Town Hall next month. That Townhall will be Co-hosted with NYS Representative Joe Crowley. Crowley was the first to call when Noshat was killed, and they continue to call and be of assistance as we build this multilevel coalition of Queens advocates! We hope hell use his Washington experience to make fast friends with new DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg! Finally, our State Senators, Jose Peralta, Toby Ann Stavisky, and Mike Gianaris- you followed our Vigil for Noshat with swift action and the first new reckless driving legislation of 2014. The City will follow the incredible example our Queens elected officials have given us. Each of these individuals are incredibly accessible, available and accountable. Great leaders for a great city.
