Just got off the phone with my awesome Mama. She is truly amazing. I cant believe its been almost 1.5 years since diagnosis and almost a year since treatment ended. And although not in remission, shes still kicking ass and taking names on a daily basis. All while making sure that, when she presents herself to the public, she looks like shes never been sick a day in her life. Her fight is not without fear. She awaits the next go-round with trepidation, but she knows it could be a year or it could be 5 or 10, so she doesnt sit around waiting for it in the least. She doesnt let it stop her from a damn thing. And that takes serious courage. I couldnt have asked for a better role-model, teacher, confidant, friend, cheerleader, and guidance counselor to have brought me into this world. For each time she has made me nail-spitting mad, or annoyed the absolute crap out of me, there have been thousands more that she has uplifted me or taught me invaluable lessons about life, love, inner strength, grace, altruism, forgiveness and countless other things. If I can face and fight the adversities life sends my way with even 1/2 the amount of grace and determination she has managed to summon from within, I will be one hell of a force to be reckoned with. Because shes a true juggernaut. And when people think Im an indomitable, domineering, b-word-- I blame every bit of it on my Mother. WITH PRIDE. Because I am truly my Mothers daughter. And I wouldnt have it any other way. Cheers to you, Mom. I am so proud to be your daughter. May you continue to kick ass and take names for many years to come. Love, Candace
