Just had a conversation with a gentleman who called about a Puppy and asked how I keep my dogs looking so healthy. #1 Good food #2 Lots of good exercise #3 Kennels that allowing them to be inside or outside so they can get fresh air at anytime and go to the bathroom when they need to. He explained to me that his dogs are Crated in the house 24-7. I asked him how many times a day do you let them out to Potty he said 2 times a day in the morning and at night before he goes to bed. I explained to him that Crates are made for dogs to be transported or used for a short time but not to live in. TRIED to tell him about how a dog can get Toxic in just a few hours of Holding their Potty. Not sure he got it tell I asked him to not go to the bath room all day and see just how he feels by the end of the day. After days of this your dog will stay toxic. They never have the time to get over it because you put them right back in that crate to do it all over again. Letting your Dogs get toxic from not being able to go to the bathroom when they need to can cause all kinds of Problems for them. I have seen some Sport People keep their dogs locked up in crates and then take them out on the field and expect them to Perform at 100%. That is asking a lot of a dog. I have Built Kennels for my dogs that they have a safe warm place to be in under a hard roof but yet they can go out side anytime they want. I would not sell him a pup and he was not happy with me but thats OK with me. Crates are used for a reason and some people know how to use them right and are there for their dogs but it didnt sound like he was there at all. Living in a Box is not what I want for any of my pups.
