Like people who suffer low self-esteem desperately want to be popular, special. Its natural to want to fit in, and being ostracised traumatises us because we are social group beings, but it can become almost pathological, the need for approval, insecurity. It turns one very inward looking. I know Ive had an inferiority/superiority complex for a long time, and thinking of myself as a victim or an outsider feeds into that.
