Just had two young men from the Church of Latter Day Saints knock on my door, and of course, my boys had to rush to answer it, making me have to get dressed and talk to them. I said: Im sorry, but I am pagan and I dont want to discuss religion. One of them smiled politely and asked: Im confused, what does pagan mean? Mentally, I scratched my head. Arent they taught to think of pagans as devil worshipers??? So I shrug and reply: To me, it means that I worship the Earth Goddess, Mother Nature. I revere and teach my boys to take care of the Earth and the animals that live on it. Gryffin and Phoenix are busy acting like little clowns behind me. The two men smile. I see, well, we would just like to invite you to our church and see if your family would like to be a part of it. No thank you, I reply firmly. Is there anything that youd like for us to do for you? They ask. We could rake the leaves up. I shake my head: Sorry, but Im in the middle of something. Okay, They admit defeat with a sigh and turn to leave. I exhale in relief that they didnt insist on talking about religion as others have in the past. Hmm, if more come to our door, I might just have to hang up one of those signs that says no soliciting.
