Just heard about something in the works for our breed that makes me uncomfortable. I feel it is a move in the wrong direction. We NEED to get our breeding horses seen and glorified as doing horses, enough of lead and feed only and then they disappear into a stall, only coming out for breeding ads.. It has not worked since the eighties to grow popularity, and in my humble opinion , it is a fast track to more lack of participation. Can we please get our heads out of the distant and old way of thinking clouds? I LOVE beautiful horses, but I want to see them all move on to riding or driving careers,showing the world how athletic they can be. I hate it when they are stars for a couple of years and then fall off the map , replaced by yet another horse who will never be ridden. Sorry if that makes anyone upset, but seriously, this is one big reason we are losing the possiibility of regrowing our breed into the family friendly, doing horses they have historically been. I want to see these guys doing jobs after the beauty contests are over and and done with,not just relegated to jumping a phantom. What, exactly , is wrong with that? This is not meant to upset anyone, it is just my observation ,in talking with literally thousands of people who love our breed. By the same token, lets not throw out the gorgeous , assuming they are all non athletes. give them the chance they deserve to prove that opinion wrong. My biggest regret is that one of my much loved stallions never had the opportunity to show off what I know is stellar athleticism. I wish there was a do over for him.If there was, he would be first on the list for it
