Just home from tonights City Council meeting. We made the following decisions: a) Walt Cobb/Dave Dickson from the local Rotary Club came forward to discuss their Boitanio Park project. Council authorized Staff to proceed with the concept that the Rotary Club proposed in their letter to the City b) We approved two Development Variance Permits. One for the Sportchek Sign at Prosperity Ridge and the other for 1707 Signal Point Rd c) We authorized the tender for the Pavement Rehab Project for 2014. This totalled $427,390.55 + tax. The budget for this was $630,000.00 d) We also authorized the tender for the Borland Street reconstruction project. This totalled $726,230.50. Staff has assured that this project will be completed before the end of fall e) We received a DVP Application for 199 Eagle Crescent. This will be considered at our August 19th meeting. I asked that this be deferred until September unless there is an urgent reason that this be approved in August. Due to summer holidays - I want to provide the opportunity for the general public to provide their comment and Staff did not indicate that the applicant desired an urgent decision on the DVP f) Council endorsed a recommendation from the Community Services Committee to authorize $5,000 from Communities in Bloom Operating Reserve to go to the local BIA for the 2014 Alley Art Mural Mentorship Project and directed Staff to look for long term funding options for this mural project in partnership with the local BIA. My thanks to my colleagues for endorsing this recommendation and thanks to the BIA President and Board of Directors for their commitment to this project. I want to ensure a lively Downtown Core and thanks to the BIA for their efforts in this regard as well
