Just home from tonights Council meeting. We made the following - TopicsExpress

Just home from tonights Council meeting. We made the following decisions: a) Inspector Warren Brown of the local RCMP gave us a 3rd Quarter update. Property crime down 57% compared to 2008 levels and 18% reduction vs 2013 levels. Calls for service down 23% vs 2008 levels and 1% increase vs 2013 levels b) Our City Manager sworn in our new Jr Council members. It was a honour to observe this process c) We accepted an application for DVP #14-2014 (Lorne Marshall - 1265 11th Ave). The DVP will be formally considered by Council at our Nov 25th Council meeting d) We accepted an application for DP #4-2014 (BuildWorks Construction Inc - 1070 Murray Drive). The DP will be formally considered by Council at our Nov 4th Council meeting e) Council agreed by a 5-2 vote to refer the following Joint Committee resolution back to the Oct 22nd Joint Committee meeting for reconsideration as follows: That pursuant to City of Williams Lake / Joint Committee Report #18-2014, a Request for Proposals be issued for the designing and mounting of the Canada Day Celebrations in 2015 and 2016, and the $1,500 available from the Arts and Culture Functions Fee for Service program be allocated to the successful proposer; and further, that the results of the Request for Proposals be brought back to the January 2015 Joint Committee Meeting In order for this resolution to be formally reconsidered - both a majority of the CRD Directors for Areas D, E, F and City Council must agree to this. I think that this is highly unlikely, given the amount of time (roughly 25 mins) that was spent debating the above Resolution during the Oct 2nd Joint Committee meeting. It is my firm belief that the community needs to step up and manage the Canada Day celebration and not either the City or the CRD hence why I supported this Resolution back on Oct 2nd f) Council gave approval to the WL Stampeders Club to have a number of liquor licenses at home games where typically beer was served at the games. g) Council received the written update from our City Manager. Just want to give a heads up that the asphalt on Pigeon and 2nd will be re-done next Spring 2015 (about 3 blocks) at the cost of the contractor I am also pleased to report about $1.886 million of capital projects were done this year within budget
