Just learned an interesting acting lesson from the most unlikely place. My family likes to watch Treehouse Masters (Great show, really fun) and in the this episode we saw they go to Japan to see some of the amazing treehouses that are built there. One of the structures was a sort of memorial to the tsunami victims in a town that was absolutely devastated. The treehouse builder let the children of the town decorate the interior of the structure combining mud and other natural elements from the landscape. The children would throw the mud against the wall and it created a beautiful pattern and texture. The Japanese treehouse master then said the reason the pattern is so beautiful and interesting is because the children, like nature, didnt think about creating something beautiful. It just happened that way because they didnt let thinking get in the way. There is no thinking in nature. This philosophy applies to acting and all other art forms. STOP THINKING!
