Just like buses, two long awaited meetings at the Department for Transport came along together yesterday. First off, I met the Minister responsible for roads, Robert Goodwill to talk about the vital remaining funding for much needed new access roads from Fareham into the Gosport peninsular (the Stubbington Bypass, A27 improvements and new southern section of Newgate Lane). The Solent Local Enterprise Partnership submitted its £45M bid to central government for this package of measures last month and the decision will be announced in the New Year – fingers & toes firmly crossed! Next up, I was joined by Hill Head residents at a meeting with Baroness Kramer, the Minister responsible for buses. We discussed the significant and adverse changes which have been made to some of our local routes across the Gosport Constituency. We also suggested ways in which county councils & bus service providers could address the funding issues which so often lead to routes being cut back or terminated all together.
