Just like girls, boys perform to the expectations we set, and we are doing them a disservice by having such low ones. Were also denying them the opportunity to practice impulse control — something that may save their lives later in life. If a boy can run across a car park without having to consider the consequences, how can we expect him to not engage in risk-taking behaviour when hes older? Parenting is hard, and consistently reinforcing boundaries and behavioural expectations is, lets face it, tedious. And maybe it is more difficult to parent boys than girls.
