Just met a kind, elderly, homeless veteran in a wheelchair outside of a strip mall this evening. He reminded me of how good Ive got it, despite how much more I seek out of life. He told me his story. I gave him some cash. Tricia gave him her leftover dinner, and ignoring his squalid appearance I took his hand, told him I didnt think any less of him for asking for help - even thanked him for his service. He wept as we walked away in silence. Im totally affected by this encounter, perhaps because Id never seen anyone so articulate yet noticeably suffering before in my life. I want to do more to get him off the street. What do you do though? No one deserves to live like this.
