Just now I received a phone call from a brother regarding marriage for his sister. One of the first things that spewed out of his mouth was youre not salafee are you?! And my mum experienced the same thing last week. So, I put him straight (took me under 2 minutes alhamdulillaah). I told him politely, he doesnt know what Salafiyyah is, and if he permits me, then I would like to explicate to him what it was, which he allowed me to do so and I did. I told him salafiyyah was Islaam with the understanding of the Salaf. And who are the Salaf? The Salaf include the Prophet -sallallaahu `alayhi wassallama), the Companions, their Students and their followers. And I quoted him the below 1. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said; The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, and then those who follow the latter. [Bukhaaree 2652 & Muslim 2533] 2. So if they believe in the like of that which you believe, then they are rightly guided, but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition. So Allaah will suffice you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. [Soorah Baqarah 2.137] Alhamdulillaah (may Allaah increase him) he understood the above. I did sense some reservation, nonetheless I dont think he will open a conversation with that in the future, inshaa Allaah.
