Just now finished reading Mahija Madhus post regarding Binaca Geet Mala.Let me tell you something very interesting.This was started in 1952 on Radio Ceylon.At that time the format was totally different.It was a contest held every week.There used to be seven movie songs played (One of them used to be sung by K.L.Sahgal).The listeners were expected to make a list of their own in the order they liked(The unsaid rule was -always Sahgals song to be the topmost one!!!). and to post the same to the specified address.The results used to be declared after two weeks.The prize money was Rs-100(You can imagine the value of it at that time!!!).If the list sent by someone used to match with their list,he/she was entitled to receive the prize.When there were multiple number of winners the money used to be divided equally among them.I was fortunate enough to receive an amount of Rs.14 and 7 annas as there were seven people !!Later this programme changed its format and I think,it was relayed through Vividh Bharti!
