Just now in the back fields of Rancho Conforto we witness another - TopicsExpress

Just now in the back fields of Rancho Conforto we witness another rare site, a pair of Golden Eagles perched on the large Elm Tree with its massive branches stretched heavenward. They had their gaze fixed on the valley floor below them. Looking and searching for the slightest movement. Golden Eagle pairs maintain territories that are as large as 60 square miles so I have no idea where these two Eagles call home. I know it’s not that Elm tree because I would clearly see that nest. If there was a nest in that tree than I would of course have to get the Yorkies eagle armor to wear as they roam, frolic, roll and chase each other around with joyful, carefree, random abandonment in the back field. Golden Eagle pairs are monogamous and remain with their mate for life. They are impressive when the fly together or hunt together I would imagine. Golden Eagles always nest in high places including cliffs, trees, or on human structures such as telephone poles which I have seen as well. I see these nests more clearly when winter comes and the fallen leaves reveal their hiding places. They build huge nests to which they return for several breeding years. A female Golden Eagle will lay one to four eggs annually which shows you just how productive my chickens are. Both Eagle parents incubate them for 40 to 45 days. Typically, one or two young Golden Eagles survive to “fledginghood” (my new made up word, so you can quote me) in about three months. Their wings spans are 6 to 7 ½ feet long. The stand 3 feet tall and weigh in about 14 pounds. They are simply impressive. They can live to be almost 50 years old. I suppose the fly around Rancho Conforto because we are just two miles away from the Snake River which is teaming with life both within the river and on its banks. As I approached them they first simply jumped off the branch then their wings spread and off they went. I guess they thought I was just a little to big to double team and carry me off. This of course reminds me of one of my very favorite American Founders Benjamin Franklin. Who was a smart as they come, except for one really stupid idea he had of making the Turkey our national symbol vs. the Bald Eagle I took photos of last week and posted. I have read his argument of why the Turkey but I am thankful that it was the Turkey that made it to the Thanksgiving Table… Can you imagine eating our national symbol the Turkey? Or having the Turkey protected because it was the national symbol? Yep that was a stupid idea that ole Ben had. If you have ever seen a turkey try to fly its not a pretty site… Ok that is the second sighting of eagles in the last few days… Time to Google Yorkie armor options! Just saying! ;-)
