Just one more time… As we age and time seems to speed up too fast you just want to reach out and grab that old time clock ticking away and there is no stopping the present time we are living in at that moment. As I read the memories coming in from other people who are older and have lived before my time I see how precious our little town of Freeport,Tx has made an impact on people and the lives they lived who are or were residents of our hometown back many years ago and before most of us were even born. There is so much history the many pictures of way back when that each of us hold dear to our hearts from the happiest moments to those moments we wish we could go back and relive and do things differently. I read daily of those classmates who walked the same hallways as I did back then from Velasco elementary to the old Freeport Junior High school to Brasosport High school and there are other great schools other kids had attended as well. The things we did the fun times we shared they are locked away in our minds and hearts and we all lived in and around this town from Velasco to Freeport and we all shared different ways of life from some working the old Sulfur plant to working at Dow Chemical or Dow Badische back in them days there were more shrimpers seeking and searching out the big old Gulf of Mexico for shrimp and to make a living to support our families anyway we could to survive the good times and the bad. The many faces we can close our eyes and almost reach out and touch the ones that have passed on and gone on to be with the Lord. We miss those days of yesteryear and some of us would give anything to just go back for a day and sit along the Old Brazos river and watch the boat races or take your old hot rod out to the old back forty on the south side of Freeport and race them for fun and thrills or sit through a movie at the old Trade Winds, Surf drive in, Velasco, or the Showboat and when gas was so cheap and pull up to Hart’s or the Brazosvue and have that coke that almost every time you took a swig came back out your nose and burned like a coke used to do. The many days sitting around the table at home and playing monopoly for hours with all your family present and the blessing then was there was no cell phones or Xboxes Ps3’s or any contraption to take away those special times and memories and I would give anything for just one more day with you Mommy in that small old shotgun house on Avenue C to look up and pull on your apron and as you lift my little skinny self up into your arms and hug and hold me one last time and that smell of homemade chicken n dumplings and those special one of a kind biscuits with your homemade gravy also just one more day one more time Daddy will you chase me just one more time?
