Just opened GODZILLA and popped it in the DVD player; I am appalled at the horrible packaging...some piece of crap called an Eco-Box. From their website (with my comments in parentheses): Features of ECO-BOX™ : - Substantially reduce the mass of plastic by strategically removing material from non-functional inconspicuous areas (making it completely flimsy) - Box quality and functionality will not be affected (thats an outright lie) - Packages look and act the same as a standard Box on the retail store shelf (as long as you dont touch it or pick it up) - Consumers will only notice an environmentally friendly difference after removing the DVD and the booklet from the package (LIE: I noticed there were holes in the box when my finger nearly punched through the label once I got the cellophane off) - Cutout recycle logo helps promote environmental concerns and practices for consumers (The recycle logo does NOT help promote environmental concerns and practices for me. It just pisses me off.) - 100% recyclable materials (Who cares if its recyclable? This isnt supposed to be a disposable product; its something you keep in a collection! Thats like saying this coffee table is recyclable! Im not buying it to throw it away!) What a bunch of crap. By doing cutouts in the front and back panels, they have saved maybe a tablespoon of plastic, but reduced the structural strength of the package to virtually nothing. Id rather they have made it out of sturdy cardboard.
