Just overheard an interview with a Yes campaigner on R5 assert - TopicsExpress

Just overheard an interview with a Yes campaigner on R5 assert that, if Scotland votes for independence on Thursday then the rest of the UK will very quickly come to its senses and amicably assent to a currency union. I think that this seriously underestimates and/or ignores a number of key factors that the SNP would do well to ponder: firstly, the UK government will be gravely damaged by a sundering of the Union and is unlikely to be in a forgiving mood to the people of Scotland; secondly, the present Tory government IS petty and vindictive enough to make the lives of Scots a misery, has nothing to lose by doing so given its lack of support north of the border, and playing hardball with Edinburgh will likely play very well with its core, reactionary support in the south of England; Thirdly, an independent Scotland where financial services is even more important to the economy than it is in England becomes a competitor, rather than a complement to the City. As such, it is highly unlikely that the Masters of the Universe are going to be in the mood to indulge somewhere that they regard as being a potential threat to their interests. Once again, interesting times.
