Just previewed 1955s Helen of Troy, an extravaganza that cost 6 million to make. It has the same character *names* as the Illiad, but the bias is heavily against the Greeks. Paris was never so heroic as here, and really off Homers script! At least, Aenaes got away. But, it is something I can, and probably will show my students, because the compare/contrast is just too good. It pays lip service to several famous scenes weve studied. And the battle scenes with no CGI are pretty epic! 30,000 extras: almost enough for a real war.
