Just read a story about my 3rd Great Grandfather on my fathers - TopicsExpress

Just read a story about my 3rd Great Grandfather on my fathers side: When George Brown immigrated to America, he was fleeing England after committing some crime (possibly murder). He hopped a ship bound for Mobile, and floated over. As the ship approached Mobile Harbor, he jumped ship and swam ashore. He fled to the north and befriended some Native Americans who fed him. He eventually made homestead in present day Escatawpa, AL (not to be confused with the small town in south Mississippi). His given name was not George Brown. Obviously having no papers, he could now create a new identity and hence a new life free of English prosecution. He lived out his days and on his death bed admitted to one of his sons his true identity. It is said his name was possibly George Robertson or Robinson. The actual name has been blurred over the retelling of the story. He is buried not far from where his homestead stood. His grave is in a small abandoned cemetery in a wooded area near Escatawpa Baptist Church in Fruitdale and Vinegar Bend, AL.
