Just read an article in the Chicago Tribune by John Kass. He wrote about the brave police officers of the Park Forest police department subduing a 95 year old WW II Veteran who was supposedly waving a machete around. It sounds like another report said that it might have been a long metal shoehorn. Well the brave police officers, one having a riot shield and a taser, one had his service revolver drawn and ready to use. Two more stood by ready to use force on him to try and take the machete, (or was it the very dangerous shoehorn) away from him if they got a chance. But it is the 5th office who decided he and his cohorts were in extreme danger from this 95 year old 55 tall war veteran who, by the way, needed a cane or walker to get around, This 5th police officer had a bean bag shot gun. He felt there was such extreme danger present that he shot this very dangerous, experienced in combat, 95 year old man, with the bean bag 12-gauge shot gun not once, not twice, not three times, but 5 times. Well this veteran died of the wounds he received from those bean bags. The manufacturer does not recommend that the rifle be used closer than 21 feet, yet it was estimated that this man was only about 10 feet away. I would have thought maybe closing the door and letting the man get tired were he would have put the knife, or machete, or shoehorn, down on his own and laid down and gone to sleep, would have been a better solution to the problem. Very sad
