Just read something in the free weekly newspaper that gets mailed to everyone here. Two whole pages were filled with 100 little paragraphs about people who have nothing and what they want for Christmas. Each paragraph ended with a contact name and number so if someone wants to help they can. The most common request was for socks and shoes, clothing and warm coats, and household things like blankets and kitchen supplies. Some of them brought me to tears. Like the one about a man who has lived in a tent for 5 years but needs another because his got destroyed. The one about the disabled man who needs bus tickets to get to his treatment 3 times a week. The little boy who is wearing last summers sandals and jacket in this weather. The 5 year old in the hospital for chemo who wants Thomas the train pjs but his family cant afford them. The little girl whose family lost everything to a fire and wants a princess blanket for her bed. The women who are moving out of the domestic violence shelter to start their new lives with their children and need the most basic of house things. Children who want just a book or a game to play with my little brother. Here I have been feeling so down because my life is a little rough right now and their lives have been crashed on the rocks and theyre still not giving up. Sure put things in perspective for me. Id been praying for an answer from God about what to do about our situation and I think this might have been part of the answer. Tomorrow, were going through our stuff to see what we can help out with on the list in the paper. One thing I know for sure we can do is fill the Christmas wish of one little old man who doesnt have any family anymore. He just wants homemade cookies and candy. Thats number 72 on the list and I think there are a lot of others we can help with, too. God will take care of our housing and money problems, He always does. But I think the real blessing is going to come from trying to help spread His blessings to these others. Im really feeling a bit like Conrad in that Christmas song by Reba right now. The light bulb clicked on tonight.
