Just read that Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook toured a virtual reality room created by a startup. The creators of the room were ecstatic because Zuckerberg got so caught up in the experience that he accidentally put his phone down on a virtual desk only to have it hit the floor of the real world. The article went on to say that we will soon have virtual worlds that will fool almost anyone. I find all this fascinating. Why? Because saints and sages have been telling us for 1000s of years that we are ALREADY living in a virtual world that depends on us being caught up in it for its very existence. And for centuries hard headed science types have been dismissing such a notion as utterly absurd. I can now Imagine a future generation getting so caught up in a virtual world that they forget it is virtual.... Reminds me of the scene from the Matrix where virtual versions of Neo and Morpheus are walking down the virtual street of the Matrix surrounded by the virtual bodies of other people. These people are not our enemies, says Morpheus. But whatever you do dont try to take the Matrix away from them. Because if you do they will fight you with everything they have. This is not the stuff of science fiction. People like Christ, Ghandi, and Socrates have been trying to pry our white knuckles off the steering wheel of the Matrix for centuries and weve made them pay a stiff price for their efforts. My Zen teacher scared people with his loving attempts to do the same and I repeatedly saw people react with anger and hatred. The path to Truth is a path of disillusionment in the sense that we must lose our illusions. But we love our virtual reality, our matrix, and our illusions too much to take the trip. We take the blue pill instead.
