Just reading about Oppositional Defiant Disorder or ODD (am in love with THAT acronym). WebMD describes it as a condition in which a child displays an ongoing pattern of uncooperative, defiant, hostile, and annoying behavior toward people in authority. Wikipedia goes on ...are not aggressive towards people or animals (even though this directly contradicts the signs and symptoms), do not destroy property, and do not show a pattern of theft or deceit.. WOW. Was I ever an ODD child. I was uncooperative, defiant and annoying to those in authority, mainly people like teachers, doctors and clergy who just didnt get me or who were just not willing to put the time in to understand that I was just different. So why is it then that the child gets the label and diagnosis and not the authority? Medicating people and children who dont fit molds has become way too easy. I understand that there are some cases where, with the right therapy and understanding, medication can relieve some issues so that change can be made. I understand because I went through it and decided that was not right for me. Not a lot of children have the choice to speak their minds (not without getting labeled defiant, I guess).
