Just realized that tomorrow is ten years one month since I entered George Junior Republic group home in Gas City, Indiana, on December 4, 2004. It was a very difficult time in my life in which I made a lot of changes. I went in with a short temper, flipping out at the slightest provocation, and came out a much more laid-back person, eager to be friends with everyone. It was at R.J. Baskett (aka Baskett Case) Middle School that I discovered my ability to write poetry. This poetry became my catharsis, a release of emotions that cleanses the soul. Nearly every writing prompt I received in Mrs. Peterss English class became a poem. Then one day, when I went out into the hallway to make up some work that I missed, Mrs. Peters decided to forego the lesson plan and allow me to share my poetry out loud. After I poured out my heart and soul, even the people that picked on me the most wrote me encouraging notes, saying they were sorry they picked on me, since they didnt know my past. I returned to Frankfort, Indiana on December 19, 2005, leaving behind a class full of new friends.
