Just received this via email: I believe it to be valid information worth sharing. This woman is NOT, REPEAT, NOT affiliated with AWOL Mutts. North Carolina, VA BEWARE!!! To all rescues/shelters: I would like to share our (Wilson County Animal Shelter – NC) experience this weekend (10/19/14) with Pamela Reid. She recently pulled 2 wonderful dogs from our shelter under the rescue AWOL Mutts. She was recommended to us by other area shelters. We had full sponsorship on both dogs, vetted them here, they stayed in foster for 2 weeks, and they were flown to her on Saturday. The dogs arrived in Leesburg, VA around 12:30pm Saturday afternoon. At 8:30pm that evening, our foster got a call from an officer in Leesburg, VA, stating that our 2 dogs were found in an abandoned vehicle filled with trash. The foster immediately called me, and I contacted the officer. He stated that someone had called in this same vehicle at 5pm, but they did not realize the dogs were inside at that time due to the amount of trash in the vehicle. At 8:30pm, after receiving another call and realizing the dogs were in there, they freed them and contacted our foster, as she had a tag on her dog’s collar. Within the next hour, they located Pam. The officer put me on the phone with her, and she stated that she had been out drinking with a friend, so she left the dogs in her car. These dogs had been in her car since she left the airport, as she lives out of her vehicle and an extended stay hotel. I asked her to please send the dogs with the officer and we would have them returned to us immediately. She was at first reluctant, stating that a man in a department store was potentially going to give her money for one of the dogs. After a brief conversation, she released them to the officer. They were overnighted at a local shelter and brought to the airport the following morning at 8am (by animal control) to come back to us. They are now safely back in foster, and we will NOT be sending any dogs to Ms. Reid in the future. We felt the need to share this information, as we know of other shelters working with her. Please note that Ms. Reid looks for fully sponsored dogs. She has told us on a couple of occasions that she “loves black dogs.” She informed our pilot that she generally takes the “rescued” dogs to a local area where people walk their dogs and tries to sell them. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT PAMELA REID USED TO BE AFFILIATED WITH AWOL MUTTS, BUT HAS NOT BEEN FOR SOME TIME.. SHE IS STILL ACTING AS THOUGH SHE IS PART OF THIS RESCUE. IT IS THE RESCUE NAME SHE USES TO PULL DOGS. I have been contacted, even since yesterday, by others that she is already trying to pull dogs from to replace the 2 she just lost from us. Please share quickly. Kristin Brinson Lippert Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Kbrinson@wilson-co Office (252) 265-5967 Fax (252) 399-2871
