Just remember that when you dam up your heart to protect it from being hurt you not only block the hurt but you block the love. And for ever offense that one harbors the dam goes a little higher. Self-preservation isnt an option if you are choosing to love and be loved. Daggers come in and they may wound you but they dont have to kill you. I am reminded of the almost instant healing that occurs in some of these Sci-fi movies. You know the ones that have people or creatures that are super human in some way. This is the state in which we find ourself after accepting Christ. We are now SUPER-HUMAN! And if we tap into the power that is available to us we heal almost instantly! This is the PROPER way to guard our heart. It isnt so much as what comes at your heart but what you choose to do with it when it comes. Will you allow offense to take root? Will you allow yourself to become more and more shut off to loving and being loved? Will you allow bitterness to take root? Or will you be quick to forgive? Will you let go of your fear and instinctual self-preservation in order to love someone else? Will you love when it cost you something or is your love conditional? What are you going to do with your heart?
