Just returned from a fabulous week writing on Culebra! The sun, the sand and the water nourished us and creativity flowed like the sea. On this Island light makes diamonds of water the clouds are Himalayan and the water is salt and blue and green and gray, and still and tidal and evanescent. On this island I have soaked in self-kindness that now sings in every cell of my body like tangerine, sunlit, salty rays of goodness. On this island I discovered the next story of my life, my next path, the start of my next decade. On this island I found women of words that supported and freed me from the fear of writing it wrong. On this island there are surrounding waters where turtles of ancient depths surface to breathe the sun then disappear under to release the light into the sand. On this island, abundant with time and breeze and sun, words came. Above this island cumulus clouds billow upward, clouds through which I arrived, and clouds through which Ill leave while the magnificent frigate bird continues to float on her 9-foot wings. On this island you can swing your hips to the rhythm of palms and paddle your feet through silky water. On this island I had my first look at the incredible beauty of the undersea world and understood it was a world apart from me. On this island I have lived and loved sacred words into being, shared them with friends new and old and marveled at the truth smashing forth words of each one. On this island I worship the sun, the sea, the breeze, the palm trees, the roosters, the frigates, the writers, and the Puerto Ricanos.
