Just returned from a trek through the Himalayas near Leh, India and my first Clean India, Green India campaign. I picked up and packed out all the trash I encountered along the way. It was an interesting dance with the psyche as I first felt self conscious about being seen as strange and mixed with internal dialogues of, Are you really going to walk 50 feet out of your way to pick up that tiniest piece of paper? Or, not another big glass bottle, this shit is getting heavy and I am running out of room to carry it. At times it seemed pointless and I could feel the impulse to just conform and let it be. Ultimately the side of me that could not accept or truly be at peace with all the trash I was encountering won and I left a trail that was close to 100% free of any garbage. It may not stay that way for long but my soul feels better and the mountain feels happier too.
