Just returned from another productive weekend writing retreat, not many of us but it was nevertheless very productive. What hit me the most at this retreat was a conversation betw 2 males: yep males, both very educated, almost to the point of an argument about the state of PI depressing situation in NZ. The Pakeha explained the situation (from his perspective) and the Samoan his from his experience. Me the woman finally said, YEP, they allowed me to speak, WE CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND OTHERS SITUATIONS FROM OUR EXPERIENCES, we can only IMAGINE IT. It was my way of saying, logically, you Palagi need to LISTEN, LISTEN AND LISTEN more to us, because we will tell you our experiences, and help us, not condemn us, solve it. And vice versa. Amen.
