Just returned from the national church conference at Ilu in the - TopicsExpress

Just returned from the national church conference at Ilu in the highlands of Papua. There were several hundred delegates from every church district from Merauke to Aceh (which is like saying from coast to coast to coast, because Merauke is at the south eastern corner of Papua, and Aceh is at the north western tip of Sumatra, Indonesia). I will try and post a photo or two later. The conference theme was the task of evangelism and mission is unfinished. Included in this was the recognition that there are members of the church who have become cultural Christians who dont really know and follow Jesus as Lord. The Spirit of God was present: great reports, discussions and times of worship and prayer. This church started just over 50 years ago but it is committed to mission, evangelism and discipleship, and that was the focus all week, including the morning messages I gave. A number of things I touched on in my messages became talking points: the gospel of the kingdom means everything in our lives must be brought under Christ rule (the obedience of faith as Paul calls it in Romans); discipleship is a daily way of life not a program; disciples should be in a change process towards Christ-likeness by the renewing of the mind. Thanks for praying. In two days Gloria and I head to Soba and the Hupla people who are neighbours to the Yalis. They will celebrate the publication of their Bible, and I have been told to preach on the Sunday plus two other days!
