Just saw a meme attached to an article about bullying. The meme read, Why would you make fun of a fat person at the gym when you have evidence that theyre actively trying to fix the problem?. The article was great however it spun my wheels in an entirely different direction. Immediately it made me think of something Ive heard a lot throughout my life. Weve all heard people say, I dont go to church because of the hypocrites. Ive never understood that mentality. A. Church isnt a gathering place for the righteous. Its a hospital for the broken. B. How do you know the hypocrite you see in church Sunday isnt actively trying to fix the problem? It takes time for most people to change behaviors. Funny how we dont confine people to those same parameters when we see people go to AA or NA. When they make a mistake, we encourage them to get up, dust off, & go to the next meeting. We offer them hope that 1 mistake (or series of mistakes) doesnt mean that change is impossible. C. At least theyre attending church. For those of us that believe, thats where healing, salvation, restoration, & redemption takes place. Not in the church building itself but in the power of the Word delivered there. Personally, I respect your hypocrite. I respect them because theyre trying again after failing. Thats more than I can say for myself. When I mess up...I stop going to church. Is that right? No, its how I lose strength to fight because I stop being fed. I surrender...give up and walk away. I guess the moral of this story is more for me than anyone else. I need to learn to have the faith of our modern day hypocrite. Faith that my failures arent final and that perseverance will produce promise. #DontMindMe #PreachingToMyselfTonight And the church said #Amen
