Just saw the movie about Vivienne Meier. Yes, she was a great photographer, a great artist, and more than a little crazy. Which just shows again that a certain kind of obsessiveness so often drives art. Not the need for fame and recognition. Im sure she would have liked to hear the great things other great photographers have to say about her work, but she did it anyway. All her life. And knew her work was good even though no-one ever told her so. I love that she dragged her little charges (she was a nanny & definitely NO Mary Poppins) through the alleys and skid rows and stock yards in order to take pictures. I really miss my pal Irving Goldworm, fellow photographer and fellow obsessive. He would have loved this movie. And the kid who found the stuff and followed through and made this movie—another blessed obsessive!
