Just so you know, the gay pride event in rapid city is not about shoving it in your faces. It is about not being ashamed, not living in fear, and showing those that are still afraid and ashamed of who they are that you can be more crazy, loud, obnoxious and flamboyant than seems humanly possible, and people will still love you for exactly who you are. It is a celebration of freedom in every sense of the word. Are pride events extravagant, over the top and in some cities borderline chaotic? Definitely. But if you spent 10 or 20 or more years trying desperately to hide something about yourself, lying to everyone you loved, feeling ashamed of who you were and the lies you were telling to hide it, joining in conversations about how disgusting people like that are, trying to force yourself to change and failing miserably time and time again...you might throw a pretty big party when you finally realized you dont need to do that anymore.
