Just some thoughts on recent events ( terrorism)..everywhere i look on fb is out cry about how my Canada is not the same my Canada is broken ..wake up people seriously Canada is no stranger to acts of terrorism we have a very long history of it in which some would debate can go back to the 1600s when French and Iroquois combatants descend on three Mohawk villages south of Montreal, killing the men and sending the women to the Quebec heartland to “populate” the settlements of New France or 1963-1969: The Front de Libération du Québec (FLQ) starts a bombing campaign aimed at English-speaking Montrealers. There are bombings about every two weeks for six years; banks, McGill University, the Montreal Stock Exchange, and the homes of the sort of prominent Montreal anglos that Quebec nationalists called “Westmount Rhodesians.” At least six people are killed over this span, and dozens more injured.1965: Croatian nationalists bomb the Yugoslav consulate in Toronto. 1966: Organized criminals with ties to Miami’s anti-Castro Cuban community attack the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa 1989: Embittered men’s-rights type Marc Lépine opens fire at the Université de Montréal, killing 14 people and injuring 10 more as part of his self-proclaimed war on feminism. 2004: Slemen Elberhebi of Montreal firebombs the United Talmud Torahs of Montreal School library. 2006: Eighteen men (“The Toronto 18”) are arrested across Southern Ontario after having allegedly (and ambitiously) plotted to blow up trucks near crowded street corners, bomb the Peace Tower in Ottawa, and storm the CBC, CSIS, and Parliament, with the ultimate goal of beheading Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Eleven of the suspects, who were accused of having ties to Al-Qaeda 2013: Chiheb Esseghaier of Montreal, and Toronto’s Raed Jaserare arrested in connection with what authorities are calling “an Al-Qaeda-inspired plan” to attack a VIA Rail train in the Toronto area. Canada has men and women daily putting their lives at risk to counter terrorism in our country this has been nothing new to our way of life for a very long time now..the reaction to terrorism is a constant for some people whom dedicate their lives in ensuring the safety of civilans and our freedoms..and sadly the flavor of the day and preoccupation of lets take a stand lets not be victims blah blah talk is all fine and dandy but life goes on and time to move on perhaps if people spent more time on ensuring our government gave us civilans the right to defend ourselves we as Canada as a whole be less of a target.. thank you to the many men and women who do work on the front lines every day whos careers are dedicated to ensuring our safety at the limitations of government.
